About The Summit Sports Chiropractic Team

Your Chiropractors in Bellingham

We understand how difficult it can be to live in pain, it's important to have a Chiropractor that you can trust.

What makes Sports Chiropractic preferred by many patients is that the evaluation and treatment protocols are evidence-based and trusted by professional athletic teams, major universities, and large corporations. At Summit Sports Chiropractic we’ll work with you to put together a completely customized care plan utilizing a diverse toolbox of treatment modalities. You’ll get the care and attention you deserve while returning to peak health and performance quickly and effectively.

Most of our patients will get some combination of joint manipulation, soft tissue mobilization, and a prescription of rehabilitation exercises designed specifically for each individual patient to help restore function and reduce future injury risk. At the 30 day mark we’ll sit down, talk about how you’re progressing, address any additional concerns that may have come up during the course of your treatment, and re-work the treatment plan as needed.

Dr. Matt Akers, DC

Dr. Akers is a Chiropractor who strongly believes in patient-centered care and the importance of interdisciplinary relationships for the best care and outcomes for his patients. These beliefs are what led to his partnership with Prime Sports Institute in Bellingham, to be able to provide comprehensive physical, mental, and nutritional healthcare to his patients.

After studying extensively in biomechanical analysis, sports medicine, sports rehabilitation, and manual physical medicine Dr. Akers uses this knowledge to treat athletes at all levels from youth to NCAA to competitive professionals. Most recently, Dr. Akers has worked with our very own Bellingham Bells, providing chiropractic care through their 2020 season. Although his specialty is in Sports Chiropractic, Dr. Akers has received extensive training on the diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of musculoskeletal complaints across a broad range of patient demographics and will work with you on whatever injury you bring his way.

Dr. Akers was born and raised in south Florida but has spent time in a host of different places alongside his wife, Alyssa, before they decided to move to the verdant and beautiful Pacific Northwest. During their free time they enjoy hiking and kayaking with their two dogs, working out, or catching up on the latest sci-fi shows, movies, and books.

Whether you’ve got a new injury or are frustrated with an old nagging one, you can be certain that Dr. Akers will do everything necessary to get you back to your peak health and performance.

Dr. Ryan Brown, DC

Dr. Brown was born in southern California and raised in the Pacific Northwest. He considers Bellingham his hometown, after completing most of his schooling locally and ultimately graduating from Western Washington University with a degree in Kinesiology in 2011. When he discovered Sports Chiropractic, a career that combined both his history as an athlete with his passion for helping others on their health and wellness journeys, it quickly became something he dreamed of pursuing.

Dr. Brown has had first hand experience as a patient receiving high-level care in sports medicine, after a successful career in pole-vaulting at WWU and four additional years training at a professional level in Seattle. He has melded his experience gained while training as a professional athlete and his time spent working with Boeing’s Industrial Athlete Fitness programs with his Kinesiology degree, and enjoys being able to provide the thorough, wholistic care that most athletes require and will benefit from.

In his free time Dr. Brown loves spending time with his wife, Ashli, and their two children: Alden (5) and Adalee (3). Outside of work, he enjoys exploring forests, hiking, camping, and playing any and all racket sports.

Strength + Mobility = Stability

Strength

There are over 650 muscles in the human body and we often train the ones we can see and feel, neglecting the smaller stabilizing muscles. Our doctors will find those muscular imbalances and provide custom programming to rebuild your strength and endurance from the ground up.

Mobility

Regardless if the issue is full-body, regional, or at the individual joints, our doctors will provide high-quality assessment and treatment to improve mobility.

Stability

Almost all musculoskeletal issues can be drawn back to either too much or too little strength and mobility. We will work together to find the perfect ratio of both to improve your stability, reduce your pain, and prevent it from coming back.
